7.31 On Time
For no real reason I was reminded of a conversation overheard in The Famous Cafe last time I visited the place I still think of as 'home'.
Two ladies of mature years were discussing what life had thrown at them recently.
One related how her ninety year old mother had spent some time in hospital and had been unable to sleep due to her ward being next to the maternity unit where, apparently, the screaming was pretty much non-stop.
They shook their heads and reflected on this disappointing lack of stoicism until her friend put the matter beyond doubt: "I didn't scream when I had our Susan. There were no point".
