16.12 On Time
A couple of times in the last week LineManager has arrived at work with his still wet hair unpleasantly plastered down on his head, creating the impression of a psychotic motel manager. His natural appearance is a 'dragged through a hedge backwards' version of Uncle Andrew in Pauline Baynes' illustrations for 'The Magician's Nephew'. *
Neither could be described as a 'good' look.
Fortunately, today he went out and got his summer shearing. So we are spared for the next few
months.
Also, apparently, the deeply shocking Craft Centre at King Arthur's Labyrinth has a Bondage Mannequin and a small selection of sex toys right alongside the face painting. Now they don't advertise that on the web site do they?
(*I googled & googled, and this was the best I could do)
Does He Love You? - Rilo Kiley
Long Time Coming - The Delays
The Boys Are Back In Town - Thin Lizzy
Novocaine For The Soul - Eels
The In-Crowd - Dobie Grey
Can't Take My Eyes Off You - Andy Williams
True Faith - New Order
Take You On A Cruise - Interpol

17.12 On Time
Only three days to go till the Long Weekend in Westmorland.
I'm getting worried. People seem to think I've organised it. Which I suppose, if you call checking out hundreds of potential cottages on the internet, choosing the finalists, booking the chosen one, sending the cheque off, telling everybody what they need to bring, deciding what everyone will be doing and putting first dibs on the best bedroom 'organising', then I have.
I'm not a power mad control freak or anything.
I'm also starting to wonder if going on holiday with work colleagues is the fantastic idea it seemed that February night in the pub. Oh, but, everything will be fine ... it's not as if we've been particularly looking forward to it or really need the break or anything is it?
I sent ZebedeeTheReceptionist a cautionary link to the "Red Bull suspected in Swedish Deaths" story and, worst comes to worst, we could probably lose her in the woods for a while.
Goodbye Lucille #1 - Prefab Sprout
Hysteria - Muse
Everything Beautiful Is Far Away - Grandaddy
Blue Monday - New Order
Crumb By Crumb - Rufus Wainwright
Boulevard Of Broken Dreams - Green Day
Some Fantastic Place - Squeeze

7.31 Twenty-Eight Minutes Late
Well, the best that can be said is that the second half was less poor than the first.
I expected better from Ipswich but wasn't disappointed not to see it.
Also, you've got to feel for Simon Walton (on as sub, lasted less than a minute before being carried off with a hamstring). Maybe an indication that a can of Red Bull at half time is no substitute for a thorough warm up? Even if it was sugar free.
One More Mile - Tom McRae
Lovestruck - Madness
Evil - Interpol
She's Got A Problem - Fountains Of Wayne
Let's Go To Bed - The Cure
You're The Best Thing - Style Council
Kid About It - Elvis Costello
Woman's Realm - Belle & Sebastian
Agony - Eels

Today I made an old man in Preesall very happy.
That’s all I’m saying.
Further along on the up side, both Charlie & Lovely passed their progressions this week and have now ascended to a higher scale. I would like to be able to claim credit for this in my TeamLeader capacity – unfortunately it is entirely down to their own talent and hard work.
I did occasionally buy cookies.
Through A Long & Sleepless Night - Divine Comedy
Lonely Boy - Andrew Gold
Bliss - Muse

The Thing I Hate Most In The World* is people who persist in talking through gigs.
If you don’t like the band, don’t go. If you’re bored, leave.
If you are indifferent just SHUTTHEFUCKUP alright?
Driving back back from the Empress Ballroom along Blackpool’s seafront is a desolate experience of Godforsaken grimness. Run-down hotel after seedy bar after bed and breakfast hovel.
I don’t know which is worse, the hotels without hope, abandoned to darkness or the ones with sufficient illumination to reveal a glimpse of their Edward Hopper-esque interiors.
A solitary ‘blonde’ in her early fifties sitting hopefully at the bar. A couple in their sixties avoiding each others eyes in a lounge which hasn’t been decorated since 1976.
Simon Armitage is on the radio and his accent makes me homesick.
Wild Wood - Paul Weller
There’s A Guy Works Down The Chip Shop…- Kirsty MacColl
Man In The Moon - REM
Clowntime Is Over - Elvis Costello
My Love Has Gone - Josh Rouse
Photo Jenny - Belle & Sebastian
Uncorrected Personality Traits - Robyn Hitchcock
Bigger Brighter Better - Roddy Frame
(*Obviously it’s not. The Thing I Hate Most In The World is injustice, but this is not the place)

Also, I got one of these but I don't know where to put it ... no, I mean I don't know how to put it.
Help.
Help.

You’ve got to admire a guy who can not only get the word “perfunctory” into a song but can carry off an encore in his pants and a pair of red stillettos.

The Office was intrigued, but became really animated when I said I thought I might have got in the way of Ian McKellen.
I may have a new favourite song.

Did I really just take a call from a Mrs Grime, complaining about her cleaner?
We’ve also recently had “I’m ringing about a Miss Fortune” and a “There’s a ‘Maniak’ at the front desk asking for you”
You couldn’t make this stuff up could you.
(Let’s face it, you wouldn’t bother. And anyone who would, would more than likely write a letter to the Daily Mail about it, winning themselves £10 of Past Times vouchers in the process)
Wires - Athlete
I'm On Standby - Grandaddy
Olympic Cyclist - Ballboy
If You're Feeling Sinister - Belle & Sebastian
Everything's Ruined - Fountains Of Wayne

It seems as though there as less and less of Us every day.
The Office is quieter, darker, emptier.
OldFishwife usually blames her poor short term memory on decrepitude, however overwork is also taking it's toll. In the middle of a discussion yesterday she turned, looked blank for a split second, then pointed a witchy finger at me and wailed despairingly: "That. Girl. There. Who's name I can't remember..."
(There are just as many of Them though.)
The Delete List (for a change, tunes that got bumped of the Jukebox this week)
Spinning Plates - Radiohead
Pet Rock - Teenage Fanclub
Sugardaddy - Billy Bragg
Autumn Flower - Roddy Frame
Thanksgiving - Jason Anderson
Sylvia - Pulp
40 Days & 40 Flights - Badly Drawn Boy
Little Love Affairs - Nanci Griffith

All making James look even more of a winner.
Next Wednesday at Nine: The Apprentice, Grand Designs and Scrubs! An embarrassment of riches.

Tinseltown In The Rain
8.42 Delayed...Cancelled...Turned into a Bus (Points Failure).
I need to be in Lancaster by 10.00. As I am on the platform in time to catch the 8.42, and Lancaster is 20 minutes away, you wouldn't really think I'm going to be late.
You would?
You must use trains too.
I end up 25 minutes late.
I hate people who are late for appointments.
Maybe 'hate' is the wrong word? I despise people who are late for appointments. It's rude, disrespectful, sloppy ... and doesn't sit well with my controlfreakery. So, I apologise profusely to the understanding elderly gentleman I have kept waiting, then he smiles his deceptively benign smile, opens his folder, and triumphantly brandishes his Timeshare complaint.
And it's raining.
Anyway, the Sun Cafe was open, coming back only took 40 minutes, and I think primroses were rife on the banks of the cuttings (primroses or cowslips anyway) so it wasn't all bad.

I had a talker today.
A man who spoke, non-stop, for 13 (thirteen) minutes - I'd like to say "without hesitation, repetition or deviation", but it was certainly without any input from me. I could've stopped him. Could've "Taken Control Of The Call" as LineManager urges. But I didn't really want to .
It was restful.
I may also have told a woman to "Get over it"
I may have been thinking.
But I fear I was thinking aloud.
Not too surprised by this. They always beat us.
Staralfur - Sigur Ros
The End Of A Love Affair - Stina Nordenstam
